Job Summary
Provide direct patient care for assigned individuals by performing all technical aspects of dialysis procedures, administering and monitoring treatments, and documenting parameters on flow sheets. Safely operate dialysis equipment, troubleshoot minor issues, and assist with emergency operational procedures including basic CPR measures. Administer intravenous medications per physician orders and educate patients and families regarding end-stage renal disease, therapy, diet, and medications. Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment while addressing blood spills immediately and reporting significant changes in patient condition or equipment problems to the supervisor. Participate in staff meetings, care plan discussions, and scheduled in-service classes to stay current on dialysis principles and techniques.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN, LVN)
- Current appropriate State licensure
- Successfully complete a training course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis
- Successfully complete CPR Certification
- Must complete the Nurses Technical Training Program upon hire or soon thereafter
- Ability to provide coverage at area facilities during times of short-staffing or as required
- Employees must meet the necessary requirements of Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Must be able to lift 200lbs. with assistance
- Must be able to lift chemical water solutions of up to 30lbs.
- Must be able to stand for frequent, prolonged periods
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to move machines and equipment weighing up to 200lbs.
- Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
- Must be able to travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings
- Must adhere to the FMCNA Compliance Program
- Must follow all regulatory and division/company policy requirements
- Must be able to administer intravenous medication in accordance with physician orders and state nurse practice laws
- Must be able to initiate basic CPR measures in the event of cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations related to dialysis treatment
- Must be able to operate all dialysis related equipment according to the proper procedures
- Must be able to ensure all blood spills are immediately addressed according to FMCNA Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies
- Must be able to operate all emergency equipment effectively in accordance to the standard operation procedures
- Must be able to participate in staff meetings as scheduled
- Must be able to assist in short term and long term patient care plan meetings
- Must be able to acquire information and knowledge in current practice related to dialysis principals and technique by participating in scheduled in-service classes
- Must be able to act as a resource person for other staff members
- Must be able to assist with the coordination of the care plan with Physician, Dietitian and Social Worker
- Must be able to develop and maintain effective relationships through effective and timely communication
- Must be able to take initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner
- Must be able to provide direct patient care for assigned patient(s)
- Must be able to perform all technical aspects of dialysis procedures for assigned patients as prescribed
- Must be able to administer and monitor treatments in accordance with current treatment plan or as directed by the supervisor
- Must be able to monitor and document dialysis treatment parameters on dialysis flow sheets
- Must be able to document other information related to the care of the patient in the individual patient record
- Must be able to report any significant information, change in patient condition, or equipment problems to the supervisor
- Must be able to promote and assist in the maintenance of a sage and clean work environment
- Must be able to assist in developing and following the teaching plan to educate the patient and family regarding end stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet and medications
- Must be able to perform and document pre, interim, and post treatment review of patient condition
- Must be able to provide minor troubleshooting when necessary
- Must be able to ensure a clean, safe and sanitary environment in the dialysis facility treatment area
- Must be able to ensure that Fresenius Medical Care maintains a drug-free workplace
Desired Qualifications
- One year medical-surgical nursing experience preferred
- Hemodialysis experience preferred but not required
- ICU experience preferred but not required
