Job Summary
Conduct routine maintenance on aquatic facilities, including water quality testing, filtration system upkeep, and debris removal. Monitor water chemistry levels, inspect pumps and circulation equipment, and coordinate transportation and quarantine procedures for new aquatic arrivals. Respond promptly to emergencies involving water quality issues or equipment failures while maintaining accurate logs of maintenance and animal health assessments. Provide educational presentations to staff and visitors on aquatic conservation and ecology. Perform regular habitat inspections to assess aquatic life welfare and implement corrective measures for disease or stress.
Required Qualifications
- Completion and maintaining work orders up to date
- Receive all required certifications/licenses within the time specified
- Adherence to safety SOPs with low or no safety incidents - no late reporting of incidents
- Must possess valid driver's license from state of residence
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to meet operational needs and respond to emergencies
- Commitment to animal welfare and conservation principles, with a passion for educating others about the importance of protecting aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity
Desired Qualifications
- Degree in related science preferred
- 0-1 years' experience preferred in an environmental related field
- Knowledge of aquatic biology, ecology, and water chemistry principles, with a focus on maintaining optimal environmental conditions for aquatic life
- Familiarity with aquatic equipment, including filtration systems, pumps, UV sterilizers, and water quality testing instruments
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and water quality issues effectively
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and interact professionally with visitors, volunteers, and colleagues
- Certification in CPR, first aid, and lifeguarding preferred
