Job Summary
Host guided hikes up to three miles, lead archery and wildlife observation activities, and facilitate private experiences for guests and retreats. Maintain trail systems through mowing, vegetation management, and wood chip spreading while operating UTVs for setup and maintenance. Perform basic carpentry repairs on outdoor infrastructure and assist with winter operations like plowing and salting. Monitor weather conditions to ensure guest safety and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions during programming. Maintain accurate records and uphold First Aid and CPR certification standards. This role supports the Inns of Aurora's luxury resort offerings in the Finger Lakes region.
Required Qualifications
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Host and lead outdoor guest activities including hikes, archery, wildlife observation, and other nature-based programming
- Assist in facilitating private outdoor programming for individual guests, groups, and retreats
- knowledge in the following areas to effectively lead guest experiences: Wildlife and plant identification
- knowledge in the following areas to effectively lead guest experiences: Local ecology and land features
- knowledge in the following areas to effectively lead guest experiences: History of the Finger Lakes region and Cayuga Lake
- knowledge in the following areas to effectively lead guest experiences: Outdoor survival basics, including fire building and water sourcing/sanitation
- Archery instruction
- Lead guided hikes up to approximately 3 miles while sharing information about the landscape, ecology, and local history
- Monitor and assess weather conditions to ensure guest safety during outdoor activities
- Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification
- Create welcoming, engaging guest interactions and foster repeat participation through strong relationship building
- Maintain the outdoor trail network through: Mowing and vegetation management
- Spreading wood chips
- Assist with tree removal
- Operate and maintain outdoor equipment including: UTV for trail work and activity setup
- Perform routine equipment inspections and scheduled maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment, including weekly UTV cleaning during muddy seasons
- Assist with winter operations including plowing and salting driveways and pathways
- Step in to host activities when staffing gaps arise
- Maintain accurate records related to programming and equipment
- Troubleshoot unexpected operational challenges such as equipment malfunctions during guest activities
- Respond quickly and calmly to resolve issues while maintaining a positive guest experience
- Support a wide range of operational needs as a 'jack-of-all-trades' for outdoor programming
- Perform basic carpentry repairs and maintenance for outdoor infrastructure including platforms, bridges, and kiosks
- Strong understanding of guest expectations in a luxury resort or hospitality setting
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in resort programming, preferably outdoor programming or hospitality management
- Exceptional communication, and organizational skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle high-pressure situations
- Ability to participate in outdoor and physically demanding activities
- Comfortable working in both office and outdoor environments in various weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of outdoor recreation, wellness programs, and culinary activities is a plus
