Job Summary

Inspect trucks for defects and safe operating conditions before, during, and after trips, submitting written or electronic reports on vehicle status at the end of each tour. Maintain the appearance of the truck inside the cab and outside when conditions permit. Operate the commercial vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, including heavy traffic, inclement weather, or tight loading dock areas. Promptly report delays due to breakdowns, weather, traffic, or irregularities regarding cargo pickup or delivery. Report all accidents involving the driver or company equipment according to company policies. Manage DOT regulations, hours of service, and inspection requirements while representing the company and trucking industry through responsible driving. Travel 100% within the United States and meet all Federal and State certification and licensing requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid license to operate a motor vehicle
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Must be able to travel within the company guidelines to all points within the United States
  • Current FMCSA medical certification
  • Meets the requirements set forth by Section 391.41
  • Meets the company requirements for operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle with Class A CDL
  • Has satisfactory, verifiable experience and/or appropriate training in the transportation of freight
  • Meets all company requirements as outlined in the driver safety handbook
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations with the mental ability to handle receipts and read maps, road signs, logs, etc.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, and inspection and maintenance
  • Availability for short notice scheduling to accommodate freight movements
  • Ability to spend at least 3 or 4 hours standing
  • Ability to walk on surfaces such as concrete, wood, or metal
  • Ability to hook/unhook various vehicle combinations
  • Ability to manually lower and raise landing gear
  • Ability to operate the fifth wheel release lever
  • Ability to climb into and out of vehicles
  • Ability to fuel vehicles
  • Ability to check engine oil and coolant levels
  • Ability to talk
  • Ability to hear
  • Ability to stand
