Job Summary
Fusion Splicing Technician responsible for installation, termination, and certification of high-density fiber optic cable systems in telecom/data center environments. Must perform single-fiber and mass ribbon fusion splicing on trunk cables up to 3,456 fiber strands using Fujikura splicers, supervise and mentor a team of technicians, test and certify fiber links with OTDRs and power meters, and maintain complete project documentation. Travel 100% to Cheyenne, WY, Montgomery, AL, and other project sites nationwide; all travel expenses covered. Requires minimum 3 years’ hands-on fusion splicing experience, ability to supervise others, and strong knowledge of safety standards and splice-enclosure organization.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience performing single-fiber and mass ribbon fusion splicing on trunk cables up to 3,456 fiber strands
- Proficiency with Fujikura fusion splicers (90R, 90RS, 90RS Plus)
- Experience installing, terminating, and certifying high-density fiber optic cable systems in telecom and data center environments
- Ability to supervise and mentor a team of fiber optic technicians
- Proficiency with fiber test equipment (OTDRs, power meters, light sources)
- Ability to verify splice loss values and total link insertion loss against project specifications
- Experience with endface inspection microscopy
- Experience in routing and patch panel termination with proper bend radius management
- Familiarity with industry standards and safety protocols
- Demonstrated ability to document splice loss records, OTDR traces, as-built records, and corrective actions
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to lift and perform physical tasks; valid driver’s license and transportation
- Willingness to travel 100% to project sites nationwide
- Preferred: industry certifications (FOA/ETA/BICSI CFOT/CFOS/S/FOT; installer certifications) and Fujikura factory training
