Job Summary
OSP Fiber Technician responsible for managing, monitoring, and inspecting underground placement and construction activities for assigned projects in the Grand Island, NE region. On-site oversight of contractors, coordination with permitting jurisdictions, ensuring safety and compliance with project requirements, directing contractor installation of Viaero Fiber Network, managing material delivery and project documentation, observing workmanship, redlining construction drawings and routing, producing weekly reports, and assisting in fiber installation, splicing, testing, and utility locating as needed. Requires travel, outdoor work in all weather, ability to lift up to 60 lbs, proficiency with iPad/laptop and MS Office, and a strong attention to detail to ensure quality and safety across field projects.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience inspecting OSP (outside plant construction) preferred
- Fiber optic or construction experience and/or training preferred
- Able to travel and stay outside of the home area for work on weekdays and weekends
- Ability to perform manual tasks including walking, stooping, crouching, reaching, lifting up to 60 pounds
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
- Must be at least 21 years old and able to pass pre-employment checks (background, MVR, substance screening)
- Proficient with iPad and laptop for time reporting and training
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Detail-oriented with a drive to excel
- Eye for quality and safety compliance
- Ability to document and maintain project records and perform field inspections
