Job Summary
Assist physicians with daily patient care activities, including casting, bracing, and managing Tech-only appointments. Maintain clinic inventory by ordering supplies, overseeing medications and samples, and ensuring proper reorder levels for DME. Serve as a mentor to clinical staff, answer medical questions, and capture insurance benefits and authorization requirements. Ensure OSHA compliance through routine autoclave cleaning, equipment checks, and maintaining strict confidentiality. Back up staffing for clinic vacancies and perform essential functions of an MA or Ortho Tech as directed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Mastery of clinic skills and DME/casting/splinting checklists
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and capability to communicate with physicians, staff and outside consultants
- Knowledge of computer systems and applications, including EMR
- Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements
- Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem solving, and decision-making
- Ability to differentiate confidential information regarding patient care, TOSRA business practices and pricing arrangements and communicate with parties accordingly
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of medical and surgical care to assist in providing patient care and treatment
- Exposure to bodily fluids
- Ability to sit, bending, stooping and stretching
- Ability to walk frequently and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to assist patients weighing up to 300 pounds and place them in appropriate positions for procedures
- Full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
- Adequate visual acuity to read, the ability to interpret and understand written material and to perform required procedures
- Adequate hearing and speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others, including patients and co-workers
- Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment
- Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare an communicate appropriate reports
- Potential traveling between clinic locations
- Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation and bodily fluids
Desired Qualifications
- MA or Ortho Tech Certification
- 1 year experience as an Ortho Tech with Texas Orthopedics and/or Ortho Tech Certification
- Experience in supply ordering and OSHA knowledge
- 3 year history of casting, splinting, and applying DME
- Orthopedic Technician Certification
