Job Summary
Conduct sensorimotor exams and orthoptic-specific testing on new and return pediatric patients, making direct diagnosis and treatment recommendations to supervising physicians. Independently evaluate select return patients, devise therapeutic plans for amblyopia and strabismus, and perform office treatments while monitoring progress. Manage clinic calendars, triage patient referrals, and communicate directly with families regarding binocular vision conditions. Document all exam information in the electronic health record, associate billing codes, and submit orders for diagnostic testing and medication. Precept orthoptic students, prepare lectures on clinical skills, and teach medical residents and fellows. Support research by certifying as a study examiner for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group and mentoring students through IRB applications and data analysis. Maintain clinical equipment, ensure infection control standards, and restock exam rooms.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Orthoptist certification (CO)
- 3 years of relevant experience
- Equivalent combination of training and experience
- Certification by the American Orthoptic Council
- BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA), provider level
- Outstanding interpersonal and patient relations skills

- Ability to accurately abstract patient data from existing paper charts into EpicCare
- Working knowledge and use of EpicCare system
