Job Summary

Under the supervision of a nurse practitioner, physician, or registered nurse, assist with routine and advanced orthopedic needs by preparing patients, applying and modifying casts, and removing sutures. Instruct patients and families on supportive device usage and cast care, while ensuring orders match provider directives and documenting all actions within scope of practice. Fit and train patients on crutch, walker, and device use, then review discharge instructions before confirming cast application with the provider. Maintain clean, organized work areas, manage supply inventory, and triage patients when necessary. Work variable shift schedules including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays in a fast-paced urgent care environment.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of orthopedic technician training
  • One to four (1-4) years of related experience
  • Current BLS\CPR certification
  • Ability to work variable shift schedules and rotate coverages as need in Urgent Care Clinic
  • Variable shift schedules including morning, evening, weekend and holidays
  • Ability to take vital signs
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to take the direction of multiple sources
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public
  • Ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and ware
  • Ability to withstand long periods (66-100% of the time) of walking, standing, bending, sitting, holding limbs and or equipment for long periods of time
  • Ability to spend extended periods of time verbally communicating with patients, families, healthcare team members, and visitors
  • Ability to perform tasks that are within the scope of position qualifications, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of the urgent care department, and other local, state, and federal guidelines
  • Ability to float between departments when needed
  • Ability to perform other duties as deemed necessary by management
  • Ability to make decisions
  • Ability to handle patients, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • Orthopedic technician certification
  • Bilingual Spanish
