Job Summary
Apply, alter, and remove casts, splints, orthotics, and traction equipment for inpatient and ambulatory patients per physician orders. Educate patients and families on device care, precautions, and proper equipment maintenance. Comply with hospital procedures regarding confidentiality, safety, infection control, documentation, and charging. Requires BLS certification; high school diploma required with no degree substitution. Full-time 40-hour day shift at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]
Desired Qualifications
- Orthopaedic Technologist Certification [OTC] - National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists, Inc.
- Related patient care experience 2-3 years
- Experience in orthopedics 0-1 year
- General knowledge of standard orthopedic procedures and practices
- Working knowledge of orthopedic devices and appliances and proper fitting
- Knowledge of medical terminology pertaining to orthopedics use
- Communicate effectively when instructing patients in the use and care of orthopedic devices and appliances
- Maintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staff
- Be sensitive to and communicate effectively with diverse patients
