Job Summary
Conduct medical case reviews for federal agencies, evaluating workers' compensation files, interpreting medical reports, and determining fitness for duty or reasonable accommodation. Provide expert advice on orthopedic issues, render professional opinions with clear rationale, and make final recommendations on difficult cases. Submit monthly billing by specified deadlines and comply with DFEC program requirements regarding confidential data access. This role involves independent consultation, training, and collaboration to ensure review quality and customer service. Candidates must possess an active medical practice with at least 240 hours of direct patient care annually and board certification in orthopedic medicine.
Required Qualifications
- Board certified in Orthopedic medicine
- Must have experience in medical case review within the field as an Orthopedic Surgeon
- Preferably worker's compensation case review experience
- Active medical practice with a minimum of 240 hours of direct patient care per year in the clinical specialty for which case reviews will be conducted
- Basic computer skill proficiency (e.g., MS Word, Excel, MS Access, and Outlook)
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
- Must possess an expert understanding of Federal safety and health regulations
- Must possess experience reviewing worker's compensation cases
- Demonstrates a strong level of technical expertise in performing medical consultation for workers' compensation cases
- Maintain current BLS certification, if conducting direct patient evaluation
- Demonstrates experience in dealing with various size organizations representing widely divergent backgrounds, points of view, and levels of authority
- Licensed physician (MD or DO) degree
- Specialty board-certification in their area of subject matter expertise by one of the medical specialty Boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, or by the American Osteopathic Association
- Valid state license to practice medicine from one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia without disciplinary actions present or pending
- A minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as an Orthopedic Surgeon
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced training in Public Health
- Previous experience as a medical consultant for a Federal agency
- A broad knowledge of the requirements of federal workers' compensation
