Job Summary
Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction to help students with visual impairments navigate school and community environments independently. Complete assessments to identify mobility skills and travel challenges, then develop measurable goals for Individualized Education Programs. Teach safe travel techniques, environmental awareness, and the effective use of mobility tools while monitoring student growth and modifying approaches based on data. Coordinate with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams, participate in ARD and IEP meetings, and provide consultation and training to educators and support staff. Prepare accurate evaluations, progress updates, and service records while adhering to district procedures and state compliance standards.
Required Qualifications
- Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist through ACVREP
- Knowledge of assessment methods and instructional practices for students with visual impairments
- Ability to create, implement, and monitor individualized orientation and mobility goals
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and collaborative communication skills
- Ability to independently coordinate services and effectively manage an assigned caseload
- Excellent organization, scheduling, recordkeeping, and time-management abilities
Desired Qualifications
- Certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments is preferred
