Job Summary
Organ Recovery Surgeon - travel-focused role within Vituity's HEART Thoracic Donor Organ Transplant Recovery Program. Responsible for supporting, organizing, conducting, and directing activities related to the procurement of donor heart and lung grafts for thoracic transplantation, ensuring compliance with ISHLT/UNOS/OPO guidelines, tissue typing, and coordination with hospital teams. Involves collaboration with Administration, Surgical and Medical Staff, quality improvement efforts, training of nursing staff and transplant coordinators, and preparation for inspections. Requires board-certified/eligible thoracic surgery credentials, US medical licensure, extensive thoracic transplant experience, ongoing CME commitment, and UNOS program involvement or eligibility. Remote-work elements exist within a national footprint, with onsite responsibilities at transplant facilities; operating within a physician-owned partnership model offering professional development, profit distribution, and flexible engagement. Required Qualifications
- Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgery physicians required
- Valid license to practice medicine in one of the contiguous United States required
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in Thoracic Transplant Surgery preferred
- 12 CMEs in Thoracic OR Surgery every three years
- One year formalized training in thoracic transplantation OR two years’ experience in thoracic transplant program preferred
- Experience in pre-operative and post-operative care for ≥10-20 thoracic transplants annually
- UNOS membership qualification preferred
- UNOS-approved transplant program experience preferred
