Job Summary
Organ Recovery Surgeon opportunity with Vituity across nationwide remote-capable roles and Buffalo, NY site. Responsible for supporting and directing the Thoracic Donor Organ Transplant Recovery Program, liaising between administration, surgical and medical staff, and coordinating quality assurance, ISHLT/UNOS compliance, tissue typing, and organ procurement services. Ensure that heart and lung transplants are recovered by or under the supervision of a qualified thoracic surgeon; participate in committees, training, and safety/inspection readiness; require board-certified/eligible thoracic surgeons with US medical license and extensive transplant experience, CME maintenance, and UNOS membership qualifications. Team-based, physician-owned practice with national support and travel as needed; remote-work community integration and ongoing professional development opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgery physicians
- Valid license to practice medicine in one of the contiguous United States
- Minimum seven years’ experience in Thoracic Transplant Surgery for older graduates; consideration for newer graduates per American Board of Medical Specialists by-laws
- Maintain at least 12 CMEs in Thoracic OR Surgery every three years and one year formal training in thoracic transplantation or two years of UNOS-transplant program experience
- Minimum of two years transplant program experience; 20 thoracic transplants over two years preferred; experience with 10+ thoracic transplants preferred
- Experience in pre-operative and post-operative care for heart and lung transplants; UNOS-approved program experience
- Compliance with ISHLT, UNOS, and OPO surveys and lab data collection; disaster preparedness planning
