Job Summary
Organ Recovery Surgeon role supporting the HEART Thoracic Donor Organ Transplant Recovery Program across a nationwide network. Key duties include coordinating and directing donor heart and lung graft procurement, ensuring compliance with ISHLT/UNOS and hospital policies, preparing for inspections, collaborating with transplant teams to enhance quality assurance, and enabling efficient transplant operations while maintaining patient safety. Requires board-certified/eligible thoracic surgeons with US licensure, substantial thoracic transplant experience, ongoing CME commitments, and a track record of donor organ procurement success. The position involves travel to multiple sites as part of a nationwide program and contributing to performance improvement, training, and coordination with clinical teams and hospital administration.
Required Qualifications
- Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgery physicians required
- Valid license to practice medicine in one of the contiguous United States required
- 7+ years experience in Thoracic Transplant Surgery
- 2+ years experience with a transplant program
- UNOS membership qualification experience
- 12 CMEs in Thoracic OR Surgery every 3 years and/or 1 year formalized training in thoracic transplantation (or 2 years experience in thoracic transplant program)
Desired Qualifications
- Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgeon
- Valid license to practice medicine in one of the contiguous United States
- Minimum seven years of experience in Thoracic Transplant Surgery
- Minimum of two years transplant program experience
- Experience with UNOS membership qualification
- CME requirements in thoracic transplantation or thoracic surgery within three years
