Job Summary

Organ Recovery Surgeon position in the Southeast with nationwide travel and remote work flexibility. Responsible for supporting, organizing, conducting, and directing the Vituity HEART Thoracic Donor Organ Transplant Recovery Program, coordinating with administration, surgical and medical staff, ensuring compliance with UNOS/ISHLT/OPO guidelines, and facilitating donor heart and lung graft procurement for thoracic transplantation. Requires board-certified/eligible thoracic surgeon with active US medical license, significant transplant experience (UNOS-compatible), ongoing CME in thoracic transplantation or thoracic surgery, and ability to work across multiple hospital systems, participate in quality assurance, and support training of nursing staff and transplant coordinators. Also includes involvement in performance measurement, protocol development, research, safety training, and potential profit-distribution-based compensation. Remote, traveling role with location hint at Dallas, TX, and participation across ~475 sites nationwide. Eligible for K-1 status pay structure; comprehensive benefits package offered.

Required Qualifications

  • Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgeon
  • Valid license to practice medicine in one of the contiguous United States
  • Minimum experience: two years documented experience with a transplant program that meets UNOS membership
  • Experience with pre-operative and post-operative care for heart and lung transplants (20 transplants preferred over two years)
  • Minimum CME requirements: 12 CMEs in Thoracic OR Surgery every three years and one year formalized training in thoracic transplantation OR two additional years of UNOS-qualified experience
  • Experience with UNOS membership and donor organ procurement
  • Ability to adhere to ISHLT, UNOS, and OPO guidance and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to participate in hospital/medical staff committees and training
  • Commitment to safety and quality improvement
  • Flexibility for nationwide travel
  • K-1 status pay structure eligibility (benefits vary)
