Job Summary
Organ Recovery Surgeon – Southeast traveling role focusing on donor heart and lung graft procurement for thoracic transplant programs. Responsibilities include supporting and directing the donor organ recovery program, liaising with administration and transplant teams, ensuring regulatory/compliance adherence (ISHLT, UNOS, OPOs), coordinating training, facilitating quality assurance, and coordinating with hospital teams to maintain tissue typing and procurement services. Requires board-certified/eligible thoracic surgeon with active license in the United States, substantial thoracic transplant experience, ongoing CME commitment, and ability to work within a physician-owned partnership model with nationwide travel. Remote work options exist within a national program structure, with 475 sites nationwide and a strong emphasis on autonomy, local control, and collaborative care for thoracic transplant patients.
Required Qualifications
- Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgeon
- Valid license to practice medicine in the United States
- Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in Thoracic Transplant Surgery for consideration
- Active maintenance of professional knowledge with CMEs (minimum 12 CMEs in Thoracic OR Surgery every three years)
- Minimum two years documented transplant program experience meeting UNOS membership qualifications
- Experience with pre-operative and post-operative care for heart and lung transplants in a UNOS-approved program (minimum 10-20 transplants as specified)
- Desire and ability to work within a team-based, partnership-driven model
- Formal thoracic transplantation training or equivalent experience preferred
- Strong compliance with ISHLT, UNOS, and OPO guidelines
- Ability to travel nationwide as required
