Job Summary

Responsible for supporting, organizing, conducting, and directing the Vituity HEART Thoracic Donor Organ Transplant Recovery Program. This role encompasses liaison activities between Administration, the Surgical Staff, the Medical Staff, performance measurement, protocol development, research, and quality improvement activities for the procurement of donor Heart and Lung grafts for thoracic transplantation. Responsible for the recovery of donor Heart and Lung grafts for the Heart and Lung Transplant Program in keeping with policies, rules, and regulations of Vituity-contracted Hospital Systems, clients, and its medical and surgical staff. Ensure compliance with ISHLT/UNOS requirements and participate in inspections, tissue typing, and organ procurement services. Collaborate with physicians and the Thoracic Transplant Program team to promote Quality Assurance, drive financial/operational efficiencies, and coordinate training of nursing staff and transplant coordinators. Ensure heart and lung transplant procurement is performed by or under direct supervision of a qualified surgeon, participate in hospital and Medical Staff committees on thoracic transplant issues, and contribute to policy and disaster-preparedness planning. Maintain current professional knowledge with CME requirements and formalized training in thoracic transplantation; possess or obtain UNOS membership qualifications; support ongoing education and quality improvement initiatives across sites. The role is remote-friendly within the broader Vituity community, with opportunities for flexible work hours and virtual engagement while operating within the national transplant network.

Required Qualifications

  • Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgery physicians required
  • Valid license to practice medicine in one of the contiguous United States required
  • Minimum 7 years experience in Thoracic Transplant Surgery for consideration for certain candidates
  • Maintain current knowledge with CME requirements (12 CMEs in Thoracic OR Surgery every three years) and formal training in thoracic transplantation OR equivalent experience
  • Minimum 20 thoracic transplants over more than two years; experience with pre- and post-operative care for 10-20 heart/lung transplants as applicable
  • UNOS membership qualification or equivalent program experience preferred
