Job Summary
Organ Recovery Surgeon for a traveling/transplant program role supporting donor heart and lung graft procurement for thoracic transplantation across Vituity-affiliated hospitals. Responsibilities include coordinating, conducting, and directing the HEART Thoracic Donor Organ Transplant Recovery Program; liaising with administration, surgical and medical staff; performance measurement, protocol development, and quality improvement activities; compliance with ISHLT, UNOS, and OPO standards; ensuring tissue typing and donor procurement services; training nursing and transplant coordination staff; participating in hospital and medical staff committees; and contributing to safety, disaster preparedness, and operational efficiency. Requires board-certified/eligible thoracic surgery credentials, valid US medical license, substantial thoracic transplant experience, ongoing CME in thoracic transplantation/surgery, and the ability to work within a physician-owned partnership with nationwide opportunities and remote support.
Required Qualifications
- Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgeon
- Valid medical license in one of the contiguous United States
- Minimum of two years transplant program experience meeting UNOS qualifications
- Experience with pre-operative and post-operative care for 10-20 thoracic transplants (adult)
- CME requirements: at least 12 CME in Thoracic OR Surgery every 3 years plus 1 year formal training in thoracic transplantation OR 2+ years UNOS-transplant program experience (preferred)
- Experience with 20+ thoracic transplants over more than two years (required)
- Ability to adhere to ISHLT, UNOS, and OPO guidelines
- Ability to participate in committees and quality assurance initiatives
- Disaster preparedness and safety training
