Job Summary
Responsible for supporting, organizing, conducting, and directing the Vituity HEART Thoracic Donor Organ Transplant Recovery Program. Acts as liaison between administration, surgical staff, and medical staff; oversees performance measurement, protocol development, research, and quality improvement for procurement of donor heart and lung grafts for thoracic transplantation. Ensures tissue typing and organ procurement services are available, that transplantation procedures are performed by or under the supervision of a qualified surgeon, and that staff training for nursing and transplant coordinators is adequate. Ensures compliance with ISHLT/UNOS/state and federal regulations, contributes to inspections, and participates in committees addressing thoracic transplant donor issues. Supports safety standards and disaster preparedness; coordinates with hospitals to optimize training and operational efficiencies; promotes continuous quality improvement and education across sites.
Required Qualifications
- Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgeon
- Valid license to practice medicine in the contiguous United States
- Minimum two years of UNOS-member transplant program experience (or equivalent)
- Experience with donor heart and lung transplants (10-20 cases)
- Commitment to CME requirements (12 CMEs in thoracic surgery/transplantation per 3 years)
- Experience coordinating transplant procurement and postoperative patient care
