Job Summary
Organ Recovery Surgeon for a traveling, nationwide thoracic transplant program. Responsible for supporting, organizing, conducting, and directing donor heart and lung graft recovery for the Heart and Lung Transplant Program, ensuring compliance with ISHLT, UNOS, and OPO standards, and coordinating with hospitals, surgery teams, and transplant coordinators. Role includes liaison activities between administration, surgical and medical staff, performance measurement, protocol development, research, and quality improvement; ensure tissue typing and organ procurement services, maintain safety standards, and participate in committees. Requires board-certified/eligible thoracic surgery credentials, active medical license in the US, extensive thoracic transplant experience, ongoing CME in thoracic transplant or thoracic surgery, and a proven track record with UNOS membership and multiple thoracic transplants. Required Qualifications
- Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgery physicians required
- Valid medical license in contiguous United States required
- Experience in thoracic transplant surgery and UNOS membership preferred
- Minimum 2 years experience in transplant program with UNOS membership preferred
- Experience with pre-operative and post-operative care of thoracic transplant patients
- Minimum of 20 thoracic transplants over >2 years preferred
- CME requirements for thoracic transplantation or thoracic surgery every 3 years preferred
