Ore Dock Laborer

Job Summary
Perform a range of general ore dock tasks on topside and base of ore dock, including unloading iron ore pellets from freight cars, opening floor hatchways, loosening pellets with manual tools and machinery, cleaning pellet spillage, and assisting with other labor duties as assigned. Requires ascending/descending ~100 stairs, working in various weather conditions, maintaining safety and using protective equipment, ability to stand for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Must comply with FRA safety rules, GCOR qualifications, and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening; position is full-time, seasonal by seniority with possible overtime, weekends, and holidays. Strong reading, communication, and computer data-entry skills; willingness to learn and adhere to railroad regulations; coordinate with supervisors and co-workers. Location-based responsibilities primarily in Negaunee, Michigan, with 24/7 operations year-round per railroad schedule.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to read, communicate, and perform basic data entry
- Must be able to become and remain GCOR qualified
- Able to perform basic arithmetic (fractions/decimals)
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Pre-employment background verification and drug/alcohol screening
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
- Willingness to work 365 days a year including days, nights, weekends and holidays
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
- Strong safety awareness and adherence to railroad safety rules
