Job Summary
Prepare, set up, and assist during various surgical procedures by assembling supplies, maintaining sterility, and verifying equipment functions. Decontaminates, cleans, and sterilizes instruments while collaborating with the circulating nurse to ensure accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts. Communicate necessary information to the Circulating Nurse and/or Operating Room Clinical Supervisor in a timely manner and prioritize responsibilities under pressure. Demonstrate excellent customer service and establish positive working relationships with peers, management, and physicians while adhering to all hospital policies and infection control practices.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- BLS certification
- Minimum of at least 18 months of experience in an acute care Perioperative services hospital setting
- Internal candidates in good standing with approved certification may be considered without the minimum experience requirement
Desired Qualifications
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST)
- Knowledge of core curriculum of Surgical Technologist education & training
- Current infection control practices
- Sharp-related injury prevention
- Instruments and sterilization procedures
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
