Job Summary

Optometry Assistant – Back Office supports the Optometrist with clinical and administrative duties during patient visits, including managing patient flow in the back office, scheduling, handling no-shows, assisting with front office tasks, collecting vital signs and patient data, updating health records, coordinating referrals, supporting dispensary functions (prescriptions/phone calls), preparing exam rooms and equipment, assisting in vision testing (acuity, depth perception, color/macula/visual field), scanning documents into the EHR, stocking supplies, and maintaining compliance with attendance policies across multiple FHCN locations. Requires high school/GED completion and at least two years of Optometry/Ophthalmology experience, plus strong MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint skills, and the ability to communicate effectively.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of Optometry or Ophthalmology experience
  • High school diploma or GED with minimum GPA of 2.5 or GED with minimum overall score 162.5
  • Health care related knowledge commonly gained through trade school, para-professional, or certificate program
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word (tables/charts), Excel (formulas/lookups), and PowerPoint
  • Ability to document in an electronic health record system according to policy/training
  • Effective written and verbal communication with co-workers and others

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of Optometry or Ophthalmology experience
  • High school diploma or GED with GPA 2.5 or completion of GED with minimum overall score 162.5 or higher
  • Healthcare knowledge from trade school/para-professional/certificate program
