Job Summary
Examine patients using observation, instruments, and pharmaceutical agents to determine visual acuity, perception, focus, and coordination while diagnosing diseases and abnormalities. Prescribe medications, eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids; analyze test results to develop treatment plans; and provide pre- and post-operative care for surgeries such as cataracts and laser vision correction. Educate patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting, and safety; remove foreign bodies from the eyes; and consult with ophthalmologists when additional medical treatment is necessary. Observe and train staff on appropriate work-up procedures, serve as clinical lead in the Director's absence, and uphold clinic policies, confidentiality standards, and the WE CARE behavior standards. Maintain authoritative knowledge in sound medical practice with an emphasis on rural medicine needs for indigent and underserved populations.
Required Qualifications
- Maintain authoritative skill and knowledge in the principles of sound medical practice.
- Be familiar with the scope of practice and be knowledgeable of the regulatory authority governing the practice of Opticians and Ophthalmic Technicians.
- Be attuned to the unique needs of the indigent and underserved with practice emphasis on rural medicine needs.
- Degree in optometry from an accredited school of optometry, and is licensed to practice in the state of Washington.
- Possesses unrestricted license from the State of Washington to practice optometry.
