Job Summary
Provide support to optometrists in comprehensive eye exams and vision testing within skilled nursing and long-term care facilities. Perform preliminary testing (visual acuity, intraocular pressure, autorefractor measurements), prepare patients for examinations, and administer basic diagnostic tests (visual field testing, retinal imaging). Accurately document patient history, test results, and clinical findings; maintain and clean ophthalmic equipment per safety standards; assist with eyeglass fittings and patient education. Travel to facilities as assigned and collaborate with optometrists, advanced practice providers, and facility staff to support eye-care delivery for geriatric patients.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an Optometric Technician or Ophthalmic Technician training program preferred
- Certification (e.g., CPO, ABO) preferred but not required
- Prior experience in optometry or ophthalmology strongly preferred
- Experience in skilled nursing or long-term care settings a plus
- Strong attention to detail and technical proficiency
- Excellent communication and patient-care skills
- Comfortable working with the geriatric population
- Ability to travel as needed
