Job Summary
Assist the optometrist with patient care and the patient experience, including pre-screening patients and administering diagnostic tests, gathering medical history, scheduling appointments, educating patients on vision benefits, training on proper contact lens use, obtaining insurance authorizations, posting exam charges and co-pays, documenting exams and procedures in EMR, coordinating patient scheduling and flow, and supporting the team to achieve goals. Requires strong customer service, communication, multitasking, organization, attention to detail, basic math, and flexibility to accommodate schedule changes. Prior optometric technician experience and EMR familiarity are preferred.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years experience in optometric technician or related
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong multi-tasking and time management skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to do basic math
- Team player with good interpersonal and listening skills
- Passion for self-improvement and continuing education
- Flexible to accommodate schedule change(s) on short notice to fulfill business needs
- Previous experience as an Optometric Technician, preferred but not required
- Previous experience with electronic medical records (EMR), preferred but not required
