Job Summary
Pre-screen patients before they see the optometrist, including the administration of diagnostic tests, gather medical history, and accurately document exams and procedures as they occur. Assist the optometrist with patient care while educating patients on insurance coverage, vision benefits, and contact lens use. Obtain insurance authorizations, post charges for fees and products, and coordinate patient scheduling to monitor office flow. Communicate with doctors, staff, and patients while greeting callers and managing delays. This role reports to the Practice Manager at Professional Vision Eyecare in Timonium, where the team prioritizes a flawless patient experience. Full-time, non-exempt hourly position with a rate between $18 and $22.
Required Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong multi-tasking and time management skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to do basic math
- Team player with good interpersonal and listening skills
- Passion for self-improvement and continuing education
- Must be flexible to accommodate schedule change(s) on short notice to fulfill business needs
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Optometric Technician, preferred but not required
- Previous experience with electronic medical records, preferred but not required
