Job Summary
Enter patient data into the EHR during exams as dictated by the doctor while assisting the optometrist and ophthalmologist with procedures. Obtain patient histories, perform preliminary and ancillary testing, and prepare the exam room by cleaning instruments and maintaining inventory. Escort patients to the Optical department, coordinate scheduling, monitor patient flow, and communicate delays. Provide a safe, clean, and organized environment for patients and staff. Depending on volume, prepare patients for examinations, instruct them on medications and procedures, perform diagnostic tests, and manage appointment books. Occasional travel to support other offices may be required.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs on a regular basis from floor to waist
- Must be able to lift 5 lbs from waist to shoulder
- Must be able to lift 5 lbs from shoulder to overhead
- Ability to stand for sustained periods of time
- Ability to stoop
- Ability to grasp
- Ability to talk
- Ability to hear
- Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned
- Proficient in EHR, including exceptional keyboarding skills
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Quality of work reflects efficiency and accuracy
- Ability to obtain knowledge and skills on the job or through educational courses
