Job Summary
Optometric Ophthalmic Technician needed to support ophthalmology clinics across Summit, Hartland, and Waukesha. Responsibilities include preparing exam rooms and equipment, assisting physicians during exams, collecting ocular and medical histories, performing a range of diagnostic tests and visual screenings (e.g., tonometry, refraction, A-Scans, keratometry, corneal topography, retinoscopy, color vision, visual fields), assisting with refractive prescriptions and eyewear dispensing, sterilizing instruments, scheduling postoperative visits, and educating patients on eye care and eyewear. Requires at least High School graduation and typically 2 years of optometric/ophthalmic experience; BLS certification or ability to obtain within 6 months. Candidate must be detail-oriented, able to communicate effectively, and proficient with EMR and Microsoft Office. Physical requirements include lifting up to 25 lbs and the ability to stand for extended periods. Salary range is $25.30-$37.95/hour with base compensation and benefits as outlined by Advocate Health. This is a full-time position in a multi-site ophthalmology setting with no night, weekend, or holiday shifts currently scheduled.
Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate
- 2 years of experience in optometric/ophthalmic assistant or ophthalmic technician role
- Knowledge of sterile technique and eye care
- Ability to educate patients on eye care and eyewear
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and EMR systems
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months
