Job Summary
The Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant is primarily responsible for helping ensure a great patient experience by preparing patients for onsite and/or remote examination, completing pre-exam diagnostic tests, and explaining each step of the process. The Clinical Specialist acts as a liaison between our patients and Optometrists and participates in the initial steps of a patient journey. Responsibilities include completing patient registration and documenting Medical History and ocular health data into EMR, assisting onsite doctors with patient care and eye examinations, explaining preliminary tests to patients, administering tests and recording results, assisting patients through remote eye exams including pre-testing, remote video conferencing, and coordinating additional testing as needed; transitioning patients to a retail associate with their recommendations, understanding MVC plans, preauthorizing insurance, scheduling appointments, maintaining patient flow, answering clinical questions, triaging emergencies, maintaining patient records, instructing on contact lens use and stock, pulling trials, ensuring a clean clinical environment, and complying with HIPAA and security requirements; flexible schedules and travel to other locations are anticipated. Education/Experience: One year of related experience; Optical/Healthcare background preferred; Medical office professionalism required; HS diploma/GED; Training provided.
