Job Summary
The Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant supports patients through the eye-exam journey by preparing patients, conducting pre-exam tests, documenting results in EMR, and explaining steps of the process. Responsibilities include assisting on-site and remote examinations, initiating remote video conferencing for remote exams, coordinating pre-testing and testing results, transitioning patients to retail staff with doctor recommendations, understanding MVC plan benefits, preauthorizing insurance, scheduling and managing exam books, maintaining patient flow, answering clinical questions, triaging ocular emergencies, and instructing on contact lens use and orders. Requires strong customer service, attention to detail, HIPAA compliance, ability to multi-task, and collaboration with clinicians and retail staff. Must be able to travel to other locations as needed and have one year of related experience; HS diploma or GED and training provided are required.
