Optometric Assistant Part Time

Optometric Assistant supports onsite and remote eye exams by preparing patients for examinations, performing pre-exam diagnostic tests, and explaining each step of the process. Acts as a liaison between patients and optometrists, and participates in the initial patient journey. Responsibilities include patient registration, submitting medical history and ocular health data into EMR, assisting with eye examinations, explaining preliminary testing, and documenting results. For remote appointments, the role guides patients through the remote eye exam, initiating video conferencing, and assisting remote doctor and technician to complete testing. Upon exam completion, transfers patient to a retail associate with clinical recommendations, and helps articulate insurance plan benefits (MVC plans) to patients. The role also involves preauthorizing insurance, scheduling appointments, managing exam books, maintaining patient flow, answering clinical questions, triaging emergencies, maintaining accurate records, instructing patients on contact lens care, and placing diagnostic contact lens orders. Requires working knowledge of contact lens brands/parameters, ensuring a clean clinical environment, and participating in ongoing training and required certifications. Flexibility to travel to other locations, strong customer service, attention to detail, and effective communication with patients and team members are essential. HIPAA compliance and data security are emphasized; the position is part-time, with pay between $17 and $25.50 per hour (starting at $17 and up to $25.50 with incentives), per union terms where applicable.
