Optical Patient Service Representative

Job Summary
Greet visitors and patients, register new and established patients, and schedule appointments while collecting co-pays and sliding fee payments. Verify health benefits for Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial insurance, submit prior-authorization requests, and complete financial screenings for uninsured or underinsured individuals. Balance daily collections, answer incoming calls, and educate patients on available services. Follow HIPAA guidelines, maintain accurate patient records, and communicate wait times to ensure a positive customer service experience. Work in an office environment with frequent contact with patients and physicians, requiring reliable transportation and a high school diploma.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have reliable transportation
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of experience working within a healthcare setting
- Associate's degree in business, or healthcare related studies
- Ability to analyze situations and solve problems at strategic and tactical levels
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies
- Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors
- Practiced at organization and planning
