Optical Fiber R&D Draw Technician

Job Summary
Operate fiber draw tower equipment to set up, monitor, and safely shut down the fiber draw process; optimize draw parameters (furnace temperature, draw speed, tension) to align with experimental/product tolerances and develop novel fiber fabrication techniques. Collect and analyze processing data, troubleshoot defects, and improve product yields. Assist in maintenance, calibration, and modification of draw tower mechanics and electronics; help write technical reports, SOPs, and communicate findings to cross-functional engineering teams. Adhere to safety protocols and PPE requirements. May support ISO 9000/9001 and 14001 quality/environmental responsibilities depending on location. Requires an Associate degree in engineering or 5 years of hands-on optical fiber manufacturing/R&D experience. Strong mechanical aptitude, data analysis skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and ability to collaborate across teams.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in engineering, OR in lieu of college degree, 5 years hands-on experience in optical fiber manufacturing or a R&D/manufacturing environment.
