Job Summary
Interpret prescriptions from ophthalmologists and optometrists, inspect lenses for flaws, and verify progressive measurements and coatings. Measure bridge, eye size, and pupillary distance using specialized devices, then mount lenses for cutting, polishing, and grinding. Assist in frame selection, heat and shape plastic or metal frames, and repair damaged eyewear. Educate patients on proper wear and care for glasses and contact lenses, while recommending specific accessories and enhancements. Create work orders for lab technicians and maintain contact lens trial inventory. Troubleshoot patient prescription issues and act as a liaison between patients and physicians. Sell and dispense contact lenses under supervision, arrange merchandise displays, and document patient orders to ensure customer service.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 1 years eyecare experience
- Minimum Associates or equivalent and on-the-job training or post-secondary education
- Ability to demonstrate eye–hand coordination, manual/finger dexterity, agility, and color vision and depth perception with visual acuity correctable to 20/25 while fitting eyeglasses and contacts
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office; especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong computer knowledge and skills with a minimum typing speed of 30 AW PM
