Job Summary
Conduct measurements and tests to provide the physician with diagnostic information and prescribe treatment. Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy, take ocular and systemic histories, and record visual acuity. Perform testing including OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry, lensometry, refractometry, slit lamp exams, and advanced ophthalmic procedures. Act as scribe while the physician examines patients, administer medications, and assist with patient education and informed consent. Oversee patient flow, maintain exam room cleanliness, and ensure compliance with practice procedures and State and Federal regulations. Occasional travel to other locations based on business needs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- 0-2 years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience
- 2+ years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience
- Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions and work performed
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly with attention to all details of a project or task
- Ability to adapt to and facilitate change in the workplace
- Ability to communicate effectively with others using good listening skills
- Ability to appreciate and be sensitive to the feelings of patients and co-workers
- Ability to make decisions and take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal
- Ability to make sound decisions using available information
- Can be relied upon to demonstrate reliability in attendance and punctuality
- The ability to work with others and independently for a common goal
- Able to navigate between screens and accurately enter data
- Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth Perception), normal range of hearing
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (gloves, face mask, eye shield, gown)
- Standing for long periods of time
- Occasional travel to other locations based upon business needs
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline preferred
