Job Summary
Ophthalmic Technician will assist ophthalmologists in providing comprehensive eye care services. This role involves performing diagnostic tests, assisting with examinations, and ensuring a smooth workflow within the clinic. Responsibilities include performing preliminary examinations and tests (visual acuity, tonometry, retinal imaging), assisting during examinations and procedures, documenting patient histories and test results in the EHR, educating patients on eye care and follow-up procedures, maintaining and calibrating ophthalmic equipment, managing patient flow and scheduling, and supporting administrative tasks including insurance verification and billing inquiries. Must ensure HIPAA/PII/PHI compliance. Travel to multiple clinic locations in Los Angeles and Orange County (up to 50%) is required. Position is full-time, with regular weekday hours; occasional overtime may apply.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or its equivalent
- 2+ years’ experience as Ophthalmology Technician preferred
- Ability to type 45 wpm
- Advanced understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)/Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
- Experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) preferred
- Experience in Medical scribing preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
