Job Summary
Test and measure eye function to assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing and treating disorders by evaluating far and near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception. Examine eyes with a slit lamp for corneal and chamber abnormalities, apply anesthetic and medicated drops, and measure intraocular pressure. Perform visual field testing, chart results on graph paper, and conduct auto refracting, lensometry, and glare testing. Complete slit lamp examinations and measure axial length using ultrasound equipment. Manage patient correspondence including disability forms, education materials, and surgical consent forms.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Five (5) or more years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in a retina practice preferred
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from a Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel (JCAHPO) approved institutional course preferred or working towards obtaining certification
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
Desired Qualifications
- Five (5) or more years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in a retina practice preferred
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from a Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel (JCAHPO) approved institutional course preferred or working towards obtaining certification
- Preferred 5 + years experience in Retina Practice
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant
