Ophthalmic Technician

Job Summary
An Ophthalmic Technician assists ophthalmologists in conducting initial testing and patient care during eye exams. Responsibilities include facilitating patient flow, performing preliminary tests with equipment (e.g., dilation, refraction, visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto refractor, topography), recording data in the EMR, verifying patient information, and communicating with patients, doctors, and managers. The role requires excellent patient service, HIPAA compliance, the ability to work across multiple locations, and willingness to learn and grow within ophthalmology. Education requires a High School Diploma or GED, with preferred COA/COT certification and at least one year of related experience or training; proficiency in Microsoft Office and EMR systems is expected. The position is full-time, with hospital/clinic hours typically Monday–Friday, with potential for earlier/later coverage and weekend work as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current COA or COT certification is preferred, but not required
- HIPAA compliance, confidentiality standards
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work with patients and clinicians in a clinical setting
- Proficiency with computer systems and EMR experience
- Desire to gain industry knowledge and training
- Ability to grow, adapt, and accept change
- Commitment to work over 40 hours and weekends when applicable
