Job Summary
Ophthalmic Scribe / Technician in Ophthalmology responsible for assisting physicians during patient examinations and procedures, performing preliminary work-ups, and maintaining ophthalmic documentation. Responsibilities include preparing patients and rooms, obtaining medical and ophthalmic histories, measuring visual acuity and intraocular pressures, performing basic visual field testing, assisting with treatments, instilling eye drops, coding procedures in EMR, keeping rooms stocked, and traveling to other locations as assigned. Requires knowledge of retina-specific ophthalmic terminology, certification (OSC) or experience with EMR, strong typing, attention to detail, and excellent communication and teamwork skills. Minimum education: High School Diploma or equivalent; COA/COT and OSC certifications preferred. Proficiency in EMR software and Microsoft Office tools is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Skilled in ophthalmic terminology, ability to type words accurately with speed and knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
- Strong attention to detail and expert keyboard (Scribe) skills.
- Ability to understand and correctly spell medical terminology and numbers as percentages; analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with others (teamwork) and provide superior customer service to patients.
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is preferred
- Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) certification is preferred
- Proficient keyboarding skills
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork
- Ability to spell medical terminology and numbers accurately
