Job Summary
Conduct preliminary patient work-ups, measure visual acuity and intraocular pressure, and perform OCT scans with speed and accuracy. Obtain medical history, record vital signs, and assist physicians with examinations, minor procedures, and patient transfers. Prepare rooms and patients for treatments, instill eye drops, apply dressings, and maintain clean, stocked examination areas. Input accurate ICD-9 codes and charges into the Electronic Medical Record system while providing consistent customer service. Complete the Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) to enable computerized order entry under physician direction. Travel to other locations as assigned and perform additional clerical or departmental tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Skilled in ophthalmic terminology
- Ability to type words accurately with speed
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
- Strong attention to detail
- Expert keyboard (Scribe) skills
- Ability to understand and correctly spell medical terminology and numbers as percentages
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficient keyboarding skills
- Use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and image management system
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Utilize instant messaging systems
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
- Strong fine motor skills
- Full use of hands
- Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to adjust focus
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification
- Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) certification
