Job Summary
Accompany the physician during patient exams and transcribe exam notes into the electronic medical records system, ensuring an accurate and complete medical record for each patient and helping facilitate patient flow. Communicate effectively with patients, coworkers, and the physician; maintain professionalism and patient care focused on customer service. Perform tasks such as transcribing history, diagnoses, lab results, alerts, and prescriptions; assist with exams and procedures, support scheduling and referrals, and support documentation in the EHR. Requires knowledge of medical terminology related to the eye, strong written/verbal communication, ability to listen and draft clear narrative notes, keyboard proficiency, and a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends with rotation to multiple worksites. Comply with HIPAA/OSHA requirements and maintain confidentiality, accuracy, and completeness of exam notes and related paperwork.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 6 months experience as a medical scribe
- One (1) year experience preferred
- Equivalent combination of experience, training and certification may apply
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye anatomy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to actively listen
- Ability to draft a narrative account of events in English
- Keyboard proficiency (approximately 70 words per minute)
- Ability to operate a computer and related software applications
- Understanding of confidential patient information (HIPAA)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
- Willingness to rotate to various worksites as needed
- Ability to document accurately in EHR
- Ability to assist with patient flow and follow-up appointments
