Ophthalmic Clinic Technician

Job Summary

Obtain patient history including chief complaint, medical history, and allergies; perform visual acuity, visual fields, motility, pupillary function, dilation, and ocular tonometry. Document findings accurately and maintain cleanliness of exam rooms while managing supply stock levels. Support patient flow by contacting no-shows, rescheduling appointments, and altering test sequences as needed. Perform opening and closing duties, inventory counts, and sterile instrument preparation. Occasionally assist with laser procedures, injections, and minor treatments while troubleshooting equipment. Provide compassionate care throughout the clinic and educate patients on eye drop administration. Schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 6:30pm, with weekly rotations based on provider and surgery needs.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Valid CPR certification
  • Must be able to move frequently from standing and sitting depending on exam room configuration during clinic sessions
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly-lit setting
  • Must be able to hear softly spoken words
  • Must be able to add support for patients getting in and out of exam chairs
  • Lifting required up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to travel to various clinics
  • Must be available for clinic hours of Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30am-6:30pm
  • Training and understanding of HIPAA requirements

Desired Qualifications

  • Some college
  • One to Two years' experience ophthalmic assistant
  • Certification as an ophthalmic assistant
