Job Summary
Obtain patient history including chief complaint, allergies, and current medications. Accurately perform and document visual acuity, visual fields, motility, pupillary function, dilation, and ocular tonometry. Maintain patient flow by contacting no-shows, rescheduling appointments, and altering test sequences as needed. Provide compassionate care throughout the clinic while performing opening and closing duties, inventory counts, and sterile instrument preparation. Maintain cleanliness and supply stock in exam rooms, troubleshoot equipment such as projectors and autoclaves, and occasionally assist with laser procedures and injections. Work Monday through Friday between 6:30am and 6:30pm across multiple clinic locations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Valid CPR certification
- Must be able to move frequently from standing and sitting depending on exam room configuration during clinic sessions
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly-lit setting
- Must be able to hear softly spoken words
- Must be able to add support for patients getting in and out of exam chairs
- Lifting required up to 50 pounds
- Ability to perform comprehensive work ups
- Ability to educate patients regarding instillation of eye drops and other instructions related to physician's treatment plan
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organization with attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Ability to work as a team member
- Ability to use multiple computer systems
- Training and understanding of HIPAA requirements
- Must be able to travel to various clinics to meet the needs of the patients and providers
- Must be available for clinic hours of Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30am-6:30pm
- Must be available for weekend hours if available
Desired Qualifications
- Some college
- One to Two years' experience ophthalmic assistant
- Certification as an ophthalmic assistant
