Job Summary
Summarize ocular examinations, document physician verbalizations, and perform accurate ICD-10 and CPT coding while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status. Assist during exams by providing medications, instruments, and patient education on treatment plans, ensuring patients understand all instructions. Monitor examination room supplies, alert physicians to schedule changes or emergencies, and facilitate communication between staff to minimize disruptions. Work Monday through Friday between 6:30am and 6:30pm with weekly schedules based on clinic and surgery needs.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to travel to various clinics
- Must be available for clinic hours Monday through Friday between 6:30am-6:30pm
- Must be able to walk and stand for entire work shift
- Must be able to move frequently from standing and sitting
- Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly-lit setting
- Must be able to hear softly spoken words
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
- High school diploma required
- At least 6 months experience in a medical office
- Knows required components of examination for appropriate CPT coding
- Understands Medicare and other common insurance requirements for quality reporting
- Training and understanding of HIPAA requirements and the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality
- Strong, professional interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication

- Strong organization with attention to detail
- Computer literacy
- Ability to spell accurately while charting
- Basic math skills
- Fluency in English
- Understanding of medical terminology and/or ophthalmic terminology
- Ability to educate patients regarding instillation of eye drops and other instructions related to physician's treatment plan
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Scribe certification (certified ophthalmic assistant), preferred
- Bilingual preferred
