Job Summary
Ophthalmic Assistant at Key Whitman Eye Center in Rockwall, TX. Supports clinicians by performing basic to complex ophthalmic tasks, documenting patient records, inputting treatment recommendations, and assisting with procedures. Responsibilities include obtaining patient history, performing lensometry and diagnostic tests (HVF, HRT, IOLmaster, biopen, fundus photography), measuring visual acuity, conducting ocular measurements (color vision, refraction), administering topical medications, performing tonometry, sterilizing instruments, assisting with punctual plugs, and communicating post-operative instructions. Requires strong communication, ability to work in a fast-paced team, EMR proficiency, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance. Education options include High School Diploma or GED with some college coursework or an Associates degree; JCAHPO certification and CPR are preferred. Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 Year Medical/Ophthalmic Scribe experience preferred
- High School Diploma or GED
- Some college coursework or Associates degree preferred
- JCAHPO certification preferred
- CPR preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skill
- Able to think quickly and be attentive
- Be able to work in a fast paced, team environment
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians and staff members
- Must demonstrate commitment to ongoing educations and uphold to the highest ethical principles of maintaining confidentiality
- Proficient in EMR and computer literacy
- Well organized and attentive to detail
- Proficiency in a second language highly desirable
