Job Summary
Ophthalmic Assistant position at Riverside Health System in Newport News, VA. Assists with patient intake, documents complaints, performs and records clinical measurements (visual acuities, refractometry, tonometry, keratometry, slit lamp exams, visual fields, OCT, and other tests) under supervision, facilitates patient education, prepares prescription refills for physician review, and handles referral and dictation letters. Maintains patient history, communicates with physicians and team, and supports office operations while ensuring regulatory compliance (OSHA/HIPAA) and proficient use of EHR and Microsoft Office. Prior ophthalmology/optometry office experience is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
- 1 year Ophthalmology/Optometry Office (Preferred)
- Experience with clinical measures: Visual Acuities, Refractometry, Tonometry, Slit Lamp Exams, OCT (preferred)
- Familiar with Electronic Health Records and Microsoft Office
- Ability to greet patients, document complaints, and facilitate communication with physicians and team
