Job Summary
Conduct pre-tests, refractions, and patient exams while assisting physicians with procedures. Perform standing rooming, blood pressure checks, and chart documentation. Prepare patients for exams and operate visual testing equipment using ICD-10 terminology. Take vital signs and coordinate work activities with attention to detail. Maintain effective communication with physicians, patients, and staff while prioritizing tasks independently. Requires HS Diploma and COA or COT certification within 18 months. Full-time 40-hour schedule on Friday, Monday, Thursday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- COA-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant within 18 months OR COT-Certified Ophthalmic Technician within 18 months
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
- 1 year recent relevant experience
- Skill in operating a computer, and general office skills
- Problem identification and problem solving
- The ability to understand and carry out assigned orders by physician or supervisors
- Must have customer service skills with patients, physicians, co-workers and all supervisor/management positions
- Ability to make simple mathematical computations
- Work independently, effectively prioritize tasks, exercise initiative, judgment, and decision making
- Work effectively as team member
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public
- Knowledge, understanding, and ability to operate visual testing equipment
- Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
- Ability to efficiently operate Ophthalmology equipment
- Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities paying particular attention to detail
- Verbal and written communication skills for regular contact with physicians, patients and staff
- Competency in basic Ophthalmic Assisting skills such as chart documentation, taking vital signs, preparing patients for exam, performing ophthalmology testing
- Knowledge of the most commonly used terms (ICD-10) in Ophthalmology
- Must be able to handle hazardous drugs in the course of their work, including patient care, which requires them to manage, store, prepare, receive, unpack, transport, dispose of, or administer drugs identified as hazardous or potentially hazardous by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and in accordance with the USP 800 guidelines
