Job Summary
Operate and maintain a wastewater treatment plant, performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing operating problems, and making process control adjustments. Collect samples, perform laboratory testing, determine proper chemical flow rates, and prepare reports while maintaining shift logs. Establish effective sample procedures for plant operations and effluent, and direct or perform necessary corrective actions for complex challenges. Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the team by adhering to sound safety principles and practices. Work some holidays and participate in an on-call and weekend schedule rotation. Based in Southbridge, MA, you will contribute to seamless municipal service delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with sound safety principles and practices
- Experience with computer operations with the ability to prepare spreadsheets and word processing documents, and enter information into maintenance management system
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Class B CDL
- Tanker endorsement or ability to obtain tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire
- Massachusetts wastewater operator license or ability to obtain license within 2 years of hire
- A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA or GED
- Massachusetts hoisting license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Operators are required to work some holidays
- participate in the on-call and weekend schedule rotation
Desired Qualifications
- Ideally, you'll also have: Experience operating a wastewater treatment facility
- Experience operating a Vactor truck
- Experience operating a Front End Loader
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools employed in the general operation of engines, pumps, valves, motors, and related equipment; general maintenance work; safe work practices; principles and methods of biological and chemical sewage analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes; principles of supervision
- Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, data management systems and be able to operate plant PLCs and SCADA systems
